Suicide is one of the most critical health concerns, both in Australia and on a global scale. In 2015, over 3000 Australians died by suicide. For every suicide death, as many as 30 individuals will attempt suicide - that’s more that 87,000 per annum!

Over the past decade in Australia, there has been a 20% increase in the number of suicides and suicide is the leading cause of death for Australians aged 15-44.

Always when major disasters and significant community loss occurs suicide rates increase. Our concern is that the global COVID-19 Pandemic is increasing stress, anxiety and depression.

Clearly, the need for Suicide Prevention training across the community is very high.

This Suicide Prevention Webinar teaches individuals who have regular contact with others in their community (i.e. "gatekeepers") to recognise and respond to people at potential risk of suicide.

Topics included in the Webinar:

  • Suicide in Australia

  • Debunking Myths Surrounding Suicide

  • The Warning Signs of Suicidal Behaviour

  • Identifying Risk & Assessing Threat

  • How Apply the QPR Mental Health Intervention

  • Words of Hope

The 90 minute course is offered free and open to anyone who wants to learn how to care for, listen to and support others who maybe at risk of suicide.

This Webinar has been developed by Pastor Craig Maher, who for many years has been a Chaplain and Pastor helping people in crisis.

The training is based on some of the material originally developed by the QPR Institute: (https://qprinstituteaustralia.com.au/course/qpr-online-gatekeeper-training/) and we wholeheartedly recommend their programs to you.

The Webinar is brought to you by INChurch Melbourne and open to those of all faiths and none.
