The Parenting Teens Course

A Course for parents/guardians of children

aged between 11 to 18 years

The Parenting Teens Course is being held over 5 Wednesday evenings - coming up on March 6, 13, 20, 27 & April 3.  This is for parents or guardians of 11-18 year olds.  (Later in 2019 we will be offering the Parenting Children Course).

The Parenting Teenagers Course was developed in 1990 by Nicky and Sila Lee (authors of The Parenting Book) for parents and care-givers looking for practical support to strengthen their family relationships.

Over five sessions, the course will help you to:

  • Keep your long term aim in mind

  • Meet you teenager's needs

  • Set clear boundaries

  • Develop emotional health

  • Help them make good choices

The Parenting Teenagers Course is for parents, step-parents, prospective parents or carers of teenagers aged 11-18 years.

The course is for every type of parenting situation including parenting on your own, step-parenting and parenting as a couple.

The Parenting Teenagers Course is based on Christian principles but designed for all couples with or without a church background.

On The Parenting Teenagers Course, you are seated in small groups based on the age of your oldest child so that you can meet other parents and carers with teenagers of a similar age.

Each session begins with something to eat and/or drink, giving you space to relax and chat to other parents or carers followed by a practical talk and a time for discussion in groups.

The talk is given live or on DVD and includes street interview, filmed clips of parents and teenagers sharing their own experiences and advice from parenting experts.

Who are the course facilitators?

The Parenting Teens Course is facilitated by Craig & Melissa Maher who have been married for 23 years and are the parents of 6 daughters aged between 10 - 20 years.  They are the co-Senior Pastors of INChurch Melbourne based in Caroline Springs.  They have a passion to support marriages and families to grow stronger.

Is child care available?

Childcare will be available for children aged 1 (and walking) to Year 8 students. Under 1yr's are welcome to stay with you.

Childcare will include G or PG rated movies (suitable to registered ages of children), craft and activities. Supper and drinks will be provided. Please bring any necessary comfort items for your child.

Childcare costs $25 per child for the full 5 weeks and children MUST be registered prior to 6th March. Carers have their Working With Children Checks and are trained in child protection.

Note: There will be no refunds if one or more weeks of childcare payment, should your child/ren not be able to attend.

Can I bring my children to the course?

Babies who can be easily settled can be brought to the course.  However no toddlers or children are to come please as the course is designed for adults who are parents & guardians of children 11 - 18 years old.  We want to create some space for parents/guardians to learn more about parenting skills. Please make arrangements for your children to be cared for.

Do I have to go to Church to attend the course?

No. The Parenting Teens Course is open to every one regardless of religious faith or background. The course, whilst based on Christian principles, is helpful for any parent/guardian with or without a Christian faith or Church background.
