Parenting Children Course

The Parenting Children Course

A Course for parents/guardians of children
aged between 0 to 12 years

The Parenting Children Course is being held over 5 Wednesday evenings on July 24, 31 and August 7, 14 & 21.
This is for parents or guardians of 0-12 year olds.

The Parenting Children Course was developed in 1990 by Nicky and Sila Lee (authors of The Parenting Book) for parents and care-givers looking for practical support to strengthen their family relationships. The Parenting Children Course is for any parents, step-parents, prospective parents or carers / guardians of children aged 0 - 12 years.

Over five sessions, the course will help you to:

  • Build a strong family, centred on love

  • Meet your children’s needs

  • Set effective boundaries

  • Teach healthy relationships

  • Pass on the values you hold to be important

The Parenting Children Course is for every type of parenting situation, including parenting on your own, step-parenting and parenting as a couple.

Family life is under great pressure today and parents face bewildering choices about how to parent effectively. Discovering we are not alone in the challenges we face and picking up ideas from other parents can make a huge difference. We can all learn how to make even the happiest family, better.

Each session, talks are presented on DVD which are interspersed with filmed clips of parents and children talking about their experience of parenting or being parented, street interviews and advice from a variety of parenting experts.

Supper is served during the evening.

The Parenting Children Course is based on Christian principles but designed for all parents or guardians with or without a church background.

Who are the course facilitators?

The Parenting Children Course is facilitated by Pastor Craig Maher who is our Senior Pastor and father to 6 daughters and Pastor Christine Pettitt who is our Children’s & Families Pastor and mother to 4 sons. Both Ps Craig & Ps Chris have a passion to help parents and children have the best family life possible.

Is child care available?

Childcare will be available for children aged 1 (and walking) to Year 8 students. Under 1yr's are welcome to stay with you.

Childcare will include G or PG rated movies (suitable to registered ages of children), craft and activities. Supper and drinks will be provided. Please bring any necessary comfort items for your child.

Childcare costs $25 per child for the full 5 weeks and children MUST be registered prior to 20th July. Carers have their Working With Children Checks and are trained in child protection.

Note: There will be no refunds if one or more weeks of childcare payment, should your child/ren not be able to attend.

Can I bring my children to the course?

Babies who can be easily settled can be brought to the course.  However no toddlers or children are to come please as the course is designed for adults who are parents & guardians of children 0 - 12 years old.  We want to create some space for parents/guardians to learn more about parenting skills. Please make arrangements for your children to be cared for.

Do I have to go to Church to attend the course?

No. The Parenting Teens Course is open to every one regardless of religious faith or background. The course, whilst based on Christian principles, is helpful for any parent/guardian with or without a Christian faith or Church background.
